Today we want to talk about one of the most exclusive and visited fairs of modern and contemporary art worldwide; the Art Basel.
It is held every year and takes place in Miami Beach, Hong Kong and Basel, Switzerland.
If you still don't know which one it is, you may be familiar with an artwork of a banana stuck to the wall with adhesive tape, which was sold in the 2019 edition for 120,000 dollars.
What's in store for Art Basel 2021?
The US fair returns this year making noise, having gathered 253 leading galleries from 36 countries.
The main sections (Galleries, Kabinett, Positions, Nova, Survey and Edition) will be preserved, but there will be a new addition, Meridians, an exhibition consisting of 16 large-scale works.
In the area, visitors will be able to enjoy pieces by recognized artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, David Hockney or Conrad Egyr, among others.
In Kaymanta, we had the opportunity to experience these beauties in person, so we share with you our Top 6 from this 2021 edition.
kaws
An American artist and designer whose specialty is making limited edition toys and costumes. Figures like the one we share with you in the photograph are his hallmarks.
Jaume Plensa
He is a Spanish artist known for his large sculptures made up of letters and numbers, he is the creator of "Julia", the giant sculpture located in the Plaza de Colón, in Madrid. It's located very close to our showroom in Hermosilla 44.
Alexander Calder
American sculptor known as a pioneer of kinetic sculpture. He is best known for his sculptures, but he also created paintings, prints, miniatures, stage sets, jewellery, tapestries, rugs and political posters. He definitely did a little bit of everything.
Interior Design at Art Basel
One of our favorite spaces, without a doubt, has been this wonderful work in which interior design is represented as a way of creating art.
This is a concept that we know very closely: There is no interior design without an artistic conception of space.
Rothko
Latvian artist who was associated with the contemporary Abstract Expressionist movement. Another example of how color can carry great emotional weight.
Dynamic Art
We finish our favorite pieces with this one, which provides the illusion of movement caused by the material itself and by not presenting a smooth surface, but dynamic and provoking contrasts of light and shadows.
Art Basel 2021 is coming in strongly, with a groundbreaking attitude after the pandemic period we have lived through, but this will no longer be a limit for it.
